Biodegradable cardboard rings to replace plastic ones

It's called Peanut and it's a turtle. When she was little, her body was trapped in plastic from those used to bind cans of drinks. Peanut got older and the plastic exercised corset preventing his normal growth.

When she was nine years old someone found her and took her to the Zoo of St.Louis, a port town built along the west bank of the Mississippi River. It was 1993.

The veterinarians baptized her with this name because they observed the animal's similarity to a peanut. At the age of 30 Peanut was still living in an aquarium, away from the threats it would encounter in its natural habitat.
The case of the Peanut turtle is dramatic but unfortunately very common. The plastics that bind the cans are still used and often end up in the sea. Many animals are affected by entanglement with them.

To solve this major environmental problem is being used cartons for making tin rings. The company Damm has just released an advertising campaign explaining that it will trade the plastic for 100% biodegradable cardboard.
