The unstoppable need for sustainable packaging

The growing concern and awareness of the environment that we all have is undeniable. The time has come to stop, as far as possible, the damage we are causing to the environment.

In this sense, sustainable packaging has been imposed on traditional packaging for some time. This trend is beginning to gain strength and it is the same customers who prefer to opt for brands that market their products with sustainable packaging.

About half of Spanish consumers value the sustainability of packaging when they make their purchases online according to a study conducted by the consultancy TRUE Global Intelligence. The sample has studied attitudes and behaviours related to the use of sustainable packaging in eCommerce in the field of fashion (clothing, footwear and accessories).

We all want sustainable packaging

To sum up, the study clearly shows that Spanish consumers opt for the brands and shops that act responsibly, and that the packaging they use is a tangible sign of their commitment to sustainability. A path that companies should follow if they do not want to lose customers or damage their reputation.

The study's data

According to the study, just over half of the Spaniards who buy on the Internet consider that the use of sustainable packaging such as cardboard boxes plays a decisive role in purchasing fashion products. And about half think that the use of recyclable packaging is the main indicator of the sustainability of a particular brand.

Another interesting fact shows that about 70% of the people surveyed highlight the importance of returning the items, if necessary, with the same packaging with which they arrived in their homes. On the other hand, one in three respondents point out that the data appearing on the packaging is one of the main sources of information on the environmental liability of a firm.

The results of the study on the perception of sustainable packaging by consumers can be summarized in three concepts: that it can be recycled (49%), that it is biodegradable (42%) and that it is made from recycled materials (40%).
