For the purpose of care and improve the environment the Environment Secretariat of the City of Mexico and entrepreneurs from various sectors such as commercial premises, self-service stores, supermarkets and others, have signed an agreement to remove plastic bags disposable and have agreed to deliver free recyclable bags from January.

In January, these business groups will distribute paper bags and other recyclable materials to the citizens of Mexico capital.

To stimulate this new way of transporting the products we consume, it is the new logic that we need, those who live in the city.”

This is not the only initiative coming from Mexico. In October of this year the Mexican multinational Bimbo announced that to reduce the environmental impact of its products, exchange plastic containers for other more resistant, recyclable and biodegradable cardboard.

According to the United Nations, 1 million plastic bags are purchased in the world per minute.

In a statement, directors of Bimbo announced that they will join Smurfit Kappa to exchange plastic trays for other plastic trays corrugated cardboard because the environmental impact of your moving materials is also great.

Bimbo is a proudly Mexican multinational baker, who has become the largest at the global level. It has a presence in Europe, Asia, Africa and 32 countries in the Americas.

The Cardboard trays high strength wavy reduce storage space, facilitate accommodation on product shelves and also reduce (due to their lower weight) the time of shipment of products.

The removal of plastic bags is a global reality promoted in more than 60 countries, and in Mexico several states already apply it. Almost 80 percent of the plastic waste generated in the world still remains on the planet and by 2050 it is estimated that 50 percent of seabirds and the vast majority of whales will have ingested some kind of plastic.

Studies confirm that 15% of endangered species are affected by plastic waste, in addition to the danger posed by all the chemical substances of these products, which are integrated into the global food chain.
