The Mercadona network has incorporated in 11 supermarkets in Barcelona, Valencia, Baleares and Bizkaia the possibility for customers to take the purchase in paper bags or cardboard boxesahead of a foreseeable ban on plastic bags.

Customers can now choose between paper bags and cardboard boxes, two options that add to plastic bags and raffia baskets, as confirmed by official sources of the company.
11 supermarkets of the chain will count on these paper bags and cardboard boxes, and the price of paper bags will be EUR 0.10 and EUR 0.15, depending on the size; whereas the amount established for cartons is 50 cents.
During this trial period, the supermarket chain will hear contributions from both its customers and its workers “to see what is the result of the laboratory’.
