When choosing the type of packaging for our products, several factors must be taken into account. Sustainability is one of them and, moreover, increasingly important. There is no doubt that corrugated cardboard is now the packaging system that contributes most to sustainability and the environment.
Apart from being lightweight, resistant and adaptable to any need, the corrugated cardboard is 100% recyclable and in its manufacture scarcely any waste is generated.
Let's see. The cardboard boxesonce used, they should not be returned to origin and may go directly to recycling containers in the country of destination. Instead other products like plastic should be returned with what this means for logistics.
Let us set an example. The fruit being exported. If we make her travel up, let's take it for granted. Germany, in cardboard boxesWhen it reaches its destination, they leave and once the boxes are empty they can go directly to the paper container for recycling. On the contrary, if they are made of plastic, they must be returned to origin or removed from the market despite not being an easily recyclable product.
What happens during manufacture of corrugated cardboard boxes?

The factory where the boxes are made receives sheets of corrugated cardboard. These are stamped so that they take the form that will have the box that is needed. In this process there will be small pieces of cardboard that will be left over, but that will go into containers which, in turn, will provide raw materials to paper recycling plants.
Another residue is the water ink used to stamp boxes. This ink follows a process, the result of which is a very small solid residue that accumulates in a container that collects the environmental agency for its correct processing.
Finally another residue we found is the plastic strips used to bind cardboard foils. These strips are also recycled. In short, the production of corrugated cardboard boxes generates very little waste, and all of them follow a recycling process.
Talk about corrugated cardboard boxes is to talk about a solid product, adaptable to any need and also sustainable, something that will become more and more important in our production and distribution processes. It is the present and the future.
