What is an American-style flap box?

An American-style box, also known as a flap box, is corrugated cardboard packaging with four side panels and flaps at the top and bottom. It is usually sealed with packing tape, and its dimensions can be adapted to the product being stored or transported.

Frequently asked questions about flap boxes

How do flap boxes differ from self-assembly boxes?

American-style boxes close with flaps, usually secured with tape. Self-assembly boxes use folds and interlocking tabs; the exact closure depends on the design.

Should I provide internal or external dimensions?

Please specify which you are providing. Start with internal dimensions to fit the product, allowing room for dividers or protection. Confirm length, width and height before manufacture.

Which cardboard specification does my box need?

This depends on weight, fragility, stacking and transport conditions. The American-style box shape alone does not determine how much weight it can support.

Can the boxes be printed with my logo?

Yes, flexographic printing is available for this product. Send your artwork and indicate the panels you want to print so we can confirm the options.

Do flap boxes need packing tape?

The usual design uses tape to join the top and bottom flaps. Choose the closure according to the contents and handling conditions.

What information is needed for a quote?

Provide dimensions, quantity, product details, packed weight per box and printing requirements. Include the destination and preferred date so we can assess the project. We manufacture custom boxes for businesses, with minimum orders depending on size, format and project specifications. Special pricing is available for large quantities; request a proposal based on your business requirements and order volume.

What are the manufacturing and delivery lead times?

The usual lead time is 2 to 3 days after the project is approved.

How to choose your cardboard flap boxes

When choosing a flap box, consider the product, its weight and the shipping journey. An oversized box leaves empty space; a box that is too tight may leave insufficient room for protective packaging.

Dimensions, protection and strength

  • Internal dimensions: specify length, width and height, allowing for dividers or protective materials.
  • Weight and fragility: explain what each box will contain and the total packed weight.
  • Transport and stacking: indicate whether boxes will travel on pallets, by courier or remain in storage.
  • Quantity: state the number of units required and whether this is a one-off or repeat order.
